Curriculum

Our curriculum

At St John's we follow a creative, topic-based curriculum that is led by a key text. The objectives for our curriculum come from the National Curriculum 2014. We use Read, Write, Inc. in Year 2 as our sole approach to the teaching of phonics. Click the link below to see our long term curriculum for this year. We will soon be adding a medium term plan, which provides further detail. If you would like to know more, please visit our subject website pages or attend one of our school workshops or parent events such as Share the Learning, Class Assembly or Parents' Evening.

In Year 2, we have many new and exciting things to learn; this will also include some fantastic enrichment activites.

Summer Term 1 - Where can we go?

During this half term, Year 2 will be finding out about famous explorers and what they discovered about the world before us! We will explore places that we have never been to before and discuss what we might find out there.  Also we will be exploring the question- Can we travel beyond Earth?

Our text this half term is 'When the Giant Stirred' by Celia Godkin.

Summer Term 2- Who will we be?

During our final half term in Year 2, we will be thinking about what the future holds for us, what dreams we have and how we  can make them come true. We will also consider how we can prepare ourselves for life as citizens in an ever-changing modern world and explore the opportunities which are out there for us?

Our text for Summer 2 is 'The Tin forest & wonderful life' by Helen Ward
